The topic of organizational structure change took a political turn at the onset of ABM's recent webinar by John French, CEO of Cygnus Business Media. John spoke about the recent developments in the Middle East and how social media has played a part; it has clearly driven change. As we’ve seen in the Middle East, it has repercussions, much like a pebble plopped into a puddle, the ripple expands throughout. The more appropriate analogy is the domino theory effect from the Communism scare in the last century.
Change is good for an organization, it helps shake up and refocus directions. John talked about the need for reorganization at his company and how their new organizational structure is more effective. He talked about the change process being carefully orchestrated in every vertical before moving to the next business unit in the organization. The business world has come to expect no less. Clients want one contact; they don’t want to delve through layers upon layers. Streamlining an organization is a way to eliminate archaic layers that no longer fit the modern business paradigm.
As a society, we’ve grown accustomed to the instant gratification of getting our news now, quickly and concisely. More and more the talk is of digital media to fulfill the demands for instant access and knowledge. It was only a few decades ago that Star Trek science fiction presented reading books on computer tablets. Hardly science fiction when you think of Kindle and other e-readers.
